Consistency: the key to success

It’s not sexy. And once the motivation wears off it’s not enjoyable either.

There is no such thing as overnight success. And achievement doesn’t provide a short cut.

The road to accomplishment is walked only by those who are willing to show up day after day.

Today I was reminded of this truth by an unlikely source: a wart on the bottom of my foot. It’s a stubborn thing I obtained the summer after I received a liver transplant. My immune system was at an all time low. I must have contracted the virus while walking barefoot in the shower of one of the many gyms I frequented.

For 10 years I literally tried everything in the book to get rid of it (my dermatologist even took my case before the board to solicit suggestions). Nothing worked until I stumbled upon a home remedy.

Little by little it began to shrink. But only when I was consistent. I grew annoyed with the whole process a couple months ago and stopped.

While doing research for another article I stumbled upon my home remedy again. I was once again prodded to begin the daily practice once again. I was reminded that progress may be slow, but it was certain if I remained consistent.

It’s a rule that applies to any measure of success. Consistency must be applied. It’s a relief and a frustration at the same time: knowing that success will come, but it requires methodical consistency.
